Town Hall Meeting for First Years

On April 22, CPAS held a Town Hall meeting for all first-year fellows. The purpose of the meeting was for our class to come together and discuss our experiences as CIPA students thus far. We sat down over dinner at the Maplewood Community Center to share our opinions and experiences, with the goal of generating ideas to improve our program for ourselves and the coming classes.

The discussion centered around five areas: peer advising, curriculum development, professional development (internships/networking, resources for international students, and social events. CPAS board members moderated each table and collected notes. These notes were used to create a report presented to CIPA faculty and staff.

CPAS board thanks CIPA for contributing subs for dinner and especially thanks the first-year fellows who participated despite a busy week. Without your participation the event could not have been the success it was. You shared not only valuable feedback from your experiences, but also contributed excellent ideas for us to move forward. The suggestions received will surely make our program even better.

If you are a CIPA fellow interested helping to implement some of the ideas generated from the Town Hall meeting - such as volunteering to help with peer advising or orientation for Fall 2009 - please contact CPAS President Sobia Nusrat at sobee1982@hotmail.com.

Ice Cream Social

We held a mid-April an afternoon ice cream social where fellows could take a break from the final weeks of classes and enjoy some cool treats from the Cornell Dairy. The social was also a platform for student groups like WIPP (Women in Public Policy), CIPA-NOLA, and Point-of-View to share their accomplishments from the academic year with the CIPA community.
